Abu Dhabi EHS Center follows up Performance of Sectors

News Details

As part of monitoring the implementation of AD EHSMS and the performance of sectors, Abu Dhabi EHS Center held the second sector workshop for sectors on 29th May 2011, with 30 representatives from the nine Sector Regulatory Authorities (Industry, Energy, Transport, Building and Construction, Tourism, Health, Waste, Education and Food). Dr. Jaber Al Jaberi, Acting Director, Abu Dhabi EHS Center, stated that the workshop aimed at presenting the key performance indicators for the 1st quarter of 2011 and the upcoming action plans of different sectors. He highlighted the fact that currently there are around 790 registered entities in seven sectors with 150 entities having their systems approved and reporting. In addition, both the education sector and food sector have initiated the development of their systems in order to start registration of their entities in early 2012.
Dr. Jaber added that these workshops are essential at this stage to monitor progress of sectors and to present activities of the center, for during the last period, the Center signed a letter of agreement with the American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE) and launched an awareness campaign on AD EHSMS, in addition to initiating the development of a scheme for registration of EHS practitioners. He also stressed that the Center considers continuous consultation with the Sectors and government entities a fundamental issue.
For this purpose, a meeting was held with the Ministry of Labor and representatives from different Sectors on the “Work at Noon Campaign” in order to promote awareness on the campaign that will be launched by the Ministry of Labor to ban work during noon hours in the Summer months. Awareness materials developed by the Health Authority-Abu Dhabi on Safety in the Heat Program were adopted to be used by different sectors.

At the end of the workshop, the new requirements for the Sector EHSMS and the action plan for updating the AD EHSMS Regulatory Framework were discussed.
